A little bit of a light week this time around because I have been catching up on TV, sorry! I was kicking around the idea of writing about some of that TV, but this isn’t TV DIARY 2018, this is MOVIE DIARY 2018, baby. This week I’ve got writing from one of my favorite cartoonists, Pete Toms! Pete makes comics that I think perfectly capture the absurdity and alienation of being alive in this time when everything is dumb and hyper-connected. Mother’s Day is coming up so please think about giving your mom the gift of Pete’s comics.

MOVIE DIARY 2018 The Book will be adapted into a television series… The merchandise will be lucrative… There. Now to sit back and wait for the money and accolades. 

My special guest this week is Tom McHenry! Tom makes comics that I think are definitive texts about the banalities of existing on this world with other people. It is definitely your thing.

I’ve been thinking about aliens lately and how a story about aliens is at the same time kind of narcissistic but also about how small and insignificant we are and I think that’s kind of cool? Anyway, I’m back this week with Kyle Amato, a nice stranger that I met on the internet. He also runs Hawke Cast, the podcast about Ethan Hawke!

Sometimes there are days when keeping a public movie diary feels like I’ve just managed to expose how middling my tastes have gotten but then other times I remind myself why I’m really doing this: 

1) build up a likable personal brand so that when I have to crowdfund for medical expenses I can get people to give me five dollars. 
2) talking about movies is fun! 
3) maybe con some movie studio into sending me screeners?
